Movement and Voice: Why a Rigid Body Produces a Rigid Voice

If the body moves, the voice flows. If the body locks up, the voice shuts down. It’s that simple.

In voice-over work, we often record while sitting, still, almost motionless. The problem is that the voice was not designed to function in rigidity. Gentle movement activates energy, improves breathing, and awakens expressiveness.

I invite you to try continuous circular movements: nothing abrupt, nothing forced. Broad, fluid, conscious movements. These motions prepare the body to speak freely.

Before recording, you can:

Slowly roll your shoulders
Gently sway your torso
Make circles with your arms and neck

These simple gestures awaken the body–voice connection. Many voice actors notice that after moving, their voice comes out clearer and more alive.

The voice loves movement. Even if no one sees you, your body needs to feel free for the sound to be free as well.
